Workshop skills in ChatGPT

ChatGPT has no skills directory and, in ordinary chat, no shell. That is not a wall — a skill is a markdown file plus commands. You can upload the folder, let ChatGPT plan with it, and keep the runnable commands for whichever agent (or terminal) executes them.

Path 1 — upload and plan

Download any bundle from skills.html (one zip per activity). In a chat, attach the zip or the SKILL.md inside it, then ask against its content. ChatGPT reads the frontmatter — category, group size, duration, props — and can plan, adapt and translate the activity from the folder's own facts.

Path 2 — keep the prep in a Projects instruction

Facilitators who run the same drawer weekly can paste the three-step workflow into a Project's custom instructions, with the catalog URL as the source of truth — the project then answers prep questions against the real index rather than memory.

project instructions (short form)

You prep workshops from WorkshopSkill. The skill index: https://workshopskill.com/en/skills.json Each skill ships as a zip bundle: SKILL.md + printable files. When I give you a brief (headcount, minutes, setting), resolve it against the index and list: chosen skills, print order, shopping list from the props field, and the live-measure step if assessment-type.

Path 3 — pair with a terminal agent

The commands inside each SKILL.md are written to run as printed in Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI or a plain shell. Chat with ChatGPT to design the session; let the coding agent execute the curl steps and the formlm-cli measure. The paper plan and the machine prep read the same folder — they cannot disagree.

Troubleshooting

  • Upload fails for zips with Chinese filenames? Attach the SKILL.md text file itself — it is the brain; the PDFs stay for printing.
  • Answers drift from the folder? Re-attach the SKILL.md in the same message; a previous upload may have scrolled out of context.
  • Can it run formlm-cli for me? No — the live measure runs where a shell and a FormLM account exist; ChatGPT can write the exact command for you.

questions

Can ChatGPT install a skill by itself?

It cannot write to a skills directory. Uploads and pasted instructions give you the same knowledge; execution belongs to terminal agents.

Does this work with the Chinese or Traditional Chinese folders?

Yes — each language has its own index (zh / zh-hant under skills.html), localized SKILL.md and printable files in local filenames.

Is the file upload private?

Treat uploads like any chat content: your plan of a real session with names in it belongs in your own workspace, not a chatbox. The folders themselves are public CC BY files.
